Title: Introduction
Post by James H. on 25th Apr, 2013 at 8:17pm
Greetings. My name is James. Like a few thousand other farang, I am an English teacher in Thailand who has crossed the Lao border many times over the last four years because of Thai immigration policy. That is not a good reason to visit Laos. To date I have visited Vientiane and Suvannakhet for longer than two days. Trips taken to either of these cities should be done because you have time and want to be there. I feel crushed for time because of constraints. Get to the embassy. Do paperwork. Lose money. Try to find something to do that doesn't involve a tuk-tuk. Walk as much as possible without getting sunburned or dehydrated. Take as many pictures as you can. Write as much poetry as you are inspired. Do something meaningful in Vientiane and Suvannakhet that does not involve visas and alcohol. Chill. Relax. Breathe. Keep wishing you didn't need to leave the next afternoon on an international bus and travel all night so you can be in the classroom in front of 45 students who talk louder than you and have no English ability whatsoever because their Thai teachers failed to teach English in a meaningful way. Yeah, its like that.

I am from the United States. I have lived in South Korea, and have bounced around Thailand. My degree is in journalism, and I hope to add something useful to the boards here.

I do not drink alcohol, don't smoke, and need to be more serious about vegetarianism. You will learn more about me thriugh future posts. Let's see what happens next...
